Conference of the INGOs, Council of Europe, January 24 - 27, 2012 in Strasbourg


CO-HABITER took part in the meeting of the Committee « Democracy, social cohesion and global challenges »


The work sessions started well on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 where we exchanged with other participants in various working groups, on themes such as " the landscape " and " the participation of women in the political processes ".

 

The second day has been dedicated to discussions around important subjects namely: Charter on Democracy, Climate and Human Rights.

 

On Thursday, January 26, after a fruitful exchange on the European citizenship, a big meeting was held where the reports of the various working groups in the Committee “Democracy, social cohesion and global challenges” are presented and amended.

International Migrants’ Day


Under the responsibility of the Forum for the Integration of Migrants (FIMM), CO-HABITER is holding on Saturday, December 17 2011, a stand of information on St Laurent Street in Lausanne.


The objectives, among others, are to bring into light the contribution of migrants to the good functioning of the Swiss Society, and to ask for equality of opportunity according to needs as well as right for equality.

Model of the month: The former Mayor of the City of Biel / Bienne and new Member of the Council of States in Bern, Mr. Hans Stöckli


The very charismatic and remarkable Mayor of the City of Biel / Bienne from 1990 to 2010 and newly elected Member of the Council of States is our model of this month. The former Mayor of the City of Biel / Bienne was a peerless politician who used his great intelligence and tremendous know-how to serve his community since 1979.

He is the most young President of Council the City of Biel / Bienne has ever known and elected in the City hall of Biel / Bienne in 1990 (http: // www.hansstoeckli.ch / fr / person.php). ‘’24heures’’ describes him rightly as the « Man of Bienne with marvellous assessment » (http: // www.24heures.ch/biennois-bilan-or-2011-08-24) as he was resigning from his position of the city hall.

CO-HABITER is involved in the Forum « Living together, reconciling diversity and freedom in the 21st-century Europe » which is held on 13-14 November 2011 in Strasbourg – France.


The Forum gathers representatives of European civil society whose main purpose is to promote “Living together” in our multicultural societies.

 

These two working days will allow in particular the continuation of the launch of the “toolkit” to practice the intercultural dialogue.

 

Let us note that this work was already one of the objectives of the Forum of Istanbul NGO entitled “ New multicultural challenges: which roles for NGOs? ”. And of which the present meeting is an extension.
